Objective: Add data/message encryption and node authentication to
the MilCAN-A (MWG-MILA-001) protocol.
Challenge: Integrate encryption and authentication mechanisms in a very
high-rate, very low packet size, broadcast and static pub/sub embedded network
suitable for low-performance devices.
The purpose of this project is to identify a suitable way to add message payload
encryption, node authentication, Sync Master authentication and validation.
Due to the nature of the underlying CAN bus characteristics it is considered
that any security enhancements will not provide operational continuity and
resilience against security attacks, but instead they will provide rapid
detection of a security attack, intervention, and controlled
shutdown/degradation/restart, to prevent malicious manipulation of the
